Reiki

What Is Reiki Counseling? - Providence Life Coaching & Reiki Counseling - connection-confection-world-peace-in-our-handsReiki Counseling is a method of accessing deeper knowledge, wisdom, and personal obstacles that are typically hard to recognize in normal consciousness. I was trained as a Traditional Usui Reiki Teacher Master to use Reiki Counseling when working with others as a safe, grounded, and non-invasive means for supporting personal growth and development. Reiki Counseling is not psychic; it is Traditional Usui Reiki working in a lower brain rhythm than psychic.

What is Reiki?

  • “Reiki is a form of therapy that uses simple hands-on, no-touch, and visualization techniques, with the goal of improving the flow of life energy in a person. Reiki (pronounced ray-key) means ‘universal life energy’ in Japanese, and Reiki practitioners are trained to detect and alleviate problems of energy flow on the physical, emotional, and spiritual level. Reiki touch therapy is used in much the same way to achieve similar effects that traditional massage therapy is used—to relieve stress and pain, and to improve the symptoms of various health conditions.”
  • Reiki claims to provide many of the same benefits as traditional massage therapy, such as reducing stress, stimulating the immune system, increasing energy, and relieving the pain and symptoms of health conditions. Practitioners have reported success in helping patients with acute and chronic illnesses, from asthma and arthritis to trauma and recovery from surgery. Reiki is a gentle and safe technique, and has been used successfully in some hospitals. It has been found to be very calming and reassuring for those suffering from severe or fatal conditions. Reiki can been used by doctors, nurses, psychologists and other health professionals to bring touch and deeper caring into their healing practices.”

  • “At Penn Medicine, complementary or integrative medicine and wellness services supplement traditional cancer treatments. Reiki therapy may supplement the traditional treatment services, such as chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy, provided to cancer patients. Reiki may offer patients ways to enhance the quality of their lives, minimize or reduce side effects of cancer and cancer treatment, and promote healing and recovery. The physicians at Penn Medicine are knowledgeable and supportive of complementary cancer treatments. The cancer team works with patients and families to integrate these supportive programs into the overall care plan, while ensuring the safety and health of patients.”

What is Reiki Counseling like?

Reiki Counseling is a significant part of my work with others today. I have been fortunate to be trained in Reiki Counseling with the ability to work in Reiki without touch or “getting up on the table”. Reiki Counseling can be facilitated sitting in chairs, on a couch, on the Reiki table, over the phone, via Zoom, Facetime, and any other form of communication I am aware of. Reiki Counseling works directly with the Higher Self of the person, moving right past the intellect, ego, and core fears, this is one of the aspects of Reiki Counseling I appreciate most. Another interesting aspect of Reiki Counseling is the Reiki Practitioner has their memory of the details of the session “suspended” until the next time they are working in Reiki again. I love how efficiently it takes confidentiality to the next level, removing it from the Reiki Practitioner’s accessible memory until needed! This is a much different process than I experience as Social Worker, Life Coach, and Counselor when not working with Reiki.

My First Traditional Usui Reiki Counseling Experience

My first experiences with Reiki Counseling were before I was trained in Reiki.  I was going through a challenging period in my early development of personal and spiritual growth. I was a very resistant and defiant person to work with. I wanted the worker to do all the work for me, to remove my issues, like a magic wand or something. I was scared of exposing my inner fears and insecurities to anyone. Traditional Usui Reiki was an excellent method for me to find a way to become aware and share these fears and insecurities with another person who I trusted and who cared for my well-being. In short, it was safe, and I needed to feel safe to go anywhere below the surface at that point in my life.

I remember the feeling as we both had our brain rhythms slow, letting the ego dissolve away. I felt safe and held, almost child-like in my sense of being cared for and attended to. I guess I felt loved, but I would not have thought of it that way then.  We sat in chairs across from each other. We began in silence, gently moving into a focused state of being fully present. There was no reason to fight the process because I knew it was safe. This was big for me then and still is today.  As the Reiki Counseling session continued, we gently went deeper until I felt we were at my core. I was surprised this was actually a relief to experience this deeply inside myself. I thought I would be petrified, but this was not even remotely true. I will not share the specifics of our session, but I will share that when we were at a point of “pause”. The Traditional Usui Reiki Practitioner asked me if we were done or if we needed to do any more work today. I answered clearly, “We are done”. This may have been the first clear, definitive statement I made until that point. This may not sound like a big deal, but it was refreshing to feel like I knew something clearly, without hesitation or apprehension about myself. We debriefed shortly afterward. I went home feeling completely alive and peaceful. I slept well that night; my morning meditation was similar in clarity and groundedness. I was very grateful for the Reiki Counseling session making a mental note to myself that when I get trained in Traditional Usui Reiki, I want to learn how to facilitate Reiki Counseling.

What My Clients Appreciate About Reiki Counseling

The aspect that most clients find most supportive about Reiki Counseling is working in slower brain rhythms; without the typical distractions of the mind, feeling safe and open to learning about themselves and how to grow and love deeper. They speak about becoming aware of obstacles and gifts they did not know existed and experiencing them clearly and detailed. I also hear Traditional Usui Reiki clients speak about how the next few days and nights after the Reiki Counseling session expand on the work done in Reiki Counseling.  I am so grateful when I hear people share they are finally making progress on issues that have plagued them for years or decades, like addictions, self-discipline, old patterns, isolation, creativity, weight gain, healthy diet, anger, dating, relationships, sleep, sex, social anxieties, studying, professional careers, depression, attention, focus, meditation, being present, anxiety, violence, compassion, trust, ADHD, PTSD, the list is endless. Reiki Counseling is effective with youth, teens, young adults, and adults.

  • “Michael started working with me when we first met when I was in my early twenties. We did several Reiki Counseling session together that were incredibly helpful with what I was going through at the time. I was struggling with issues related to men and relationships, he was the right guy for the job. I felt safe, respected and cared for throughout the process. Later that year, I met a guy I wasn’t sure about. He supported me to take the risk and along the way. I have been very happily married to the same man for seven years and so grateful to Michael and his support. He was a great mentor and trained me in Reiki too. He is the only person I know that does Reiki Counseling and it is amazing if you have never tried it!”

Reiki Counseling can occur during a Reiki treatment, counseling, life coaching, or meditation training. Reiki Counseling is typically for individuals, couples, families, or small groups, not as often have I experienced Reiki Counseling in a larger group setting, but sure it has happened. Couples seeking relationship counseling have experienced openness and safety during sessions when working through issues with Reiki Counseling.
