It is time we all let go of the old assumptions about addiction and its causes. They are not correct or productive in moving towards a healthier society or reducing the number of people struggling with addiction, whatever their drug of choice may be.

Most people think that the reason why people become addicted to drugs is solely because of the drugs themselves. This, however, is far from the truth, as shown repeatedly by scientific studies on drug addiction. “We are all told as children, that drugs are bad because when you take them you will be hooked. As time progressed, we were told that the chemicals in drugs caused users to become addicted, and we should block them from our lives to help assist improvements. But Johann Hari has questioned these approaches to addiction completely. He started off traveling over 30,000 miles in three and a half years to a broad range of people from very different backgrounds. All of them had personal experiences toward addiction, and he began to make connections, learning from others stories. Hari Summarized what he learned.
