Things Your Couples Counselor Already Knows About Your Relationship

Before We Fall In Love - Providence Holistic Counseling Services

We all know every relationship is unique. We also know that most relationships have many similar characteristics. As a Relationship Coach and Couples Counselor, I smiled when I read 6 Things Your Couples Therapist Already Knows About Your Relationship by  on Huffington Post. Truly, there are things your couples counselor already knows about your relationship, I included an excerpt and their list from the original article, but you will need to read the article for Abby Rodman's particular take on couples counseling.  I would also like to add to the list, The Relationship Blame Game.

Music and Memory – Alive Inside

Spiritual Bypassing, Relationships and The Shadow - Providence Holistic Counseling Services
Music has been a part of my life since early childhood like many of us. I remember when my dad used to bring me home 45s of The Beatles and I was ecstatic. The next stage in my musical connection developed in adolescence through my teen years. Like many teenagers, music was the heart and soul of my life and one of the few places I felt safe and understood. In my late teens I became a disc jockey, and have done so at various times throughout my adulthood. When the mess that was my teens and 20s began to shift, music again was at the core of my development and a safe place for me to go when I felt overwhelmed or fearful. Today I cannot imagine life without music! My relationship with music typically mirrors my relationship with myself. When I first stumbled upon the website of Music and Memory, I was thrilled and almost began to cry watching the video of The Story of Henry. The Music and Memory iPod Project is amazing! I invite you to read some of the content below from their website and view a few of their videos, including the trailer to Alive Inside The Music and Memory Story....

Men That Try Too Hard

Men that try too hard - Providence Holistic Counseling Services
Men get a bad rap. If the only thing you knew about men in America came from watching TV, movies and listening to music, you would think all of us are angry, violent, lazy men hanging out on the couch watching sports and playing video games all day. It is absolutely true that a chunk of the American male population fits this description, but not all of us.  Generally speaking, men that try too hard are rarely in the news or make headlines, we are doing what we do with humility and anonymity....

17 Lies We Need to Stop Teaching Girls About Sex

17 Lies We Need to Stop Teaching Girls About Sex - Providence Holistic Counseling Services -
It is common knowledge that young girls experience incredible pressure pushing them towards and pulling them away from sex. As if girls do not have a choice or their own vote on their sexuality. In reading 17 lies we need to stop teaching girls about sex by Julianne Ross, I am reminded of just how many ways young girls are influenced and pressured to meet the needs of others, whether that be their father, mother, friends, clergy or boyfriends. It's time we collectively begin teaching girls the truth about sex and their own sexuality. The lies we teach them are not productive, nor in their best interests. ...

6 Words You Should Say Today

Listening as An Art and Skill for Improving Relationships - Providence Holistic Counseling Services
I recently saw 6 Words You Should Say Today posted on Facebook. I won't lie, when I see a post about an article on Facebook with a very sensational title, I usually disregard it.  Something inside of me said, "I need to read this." I am so glad that I did. This is very inspiring and beautifully written article on being a parent, partner, friend and human being....

Overcoming Fear is Not as Easy as a Bumper Sticker Slogan

Overcoming Fear is Not as Easy as a Bumper Sticker Slogan - Providence Holistic Counseling Services-
I bumped into this article today by accident Overcoming Fear is Not as Easy as a Bumper Sticker Slogan. I am very grateful for this and many accidents I make that guide me to where I need to be, not always where I want to be. Overcoming fear can be paralyzing to some people in certain circumstances. Fear is the four letter word that begins with "F" that can feel like a much dirtier word than its profane counterpart F**K. I remember hearing something annoying, cute and comforting many years ago, FEAR is False Evidence Appearing Real. ...
