Sexy Weakness – The Sexual Power of Emotional Vulnerability

Sexy weakness? What on earth is that? As a man, like millions of others men, I was taught that being vulnerable was bad and a sign of being weak. I was taught women want a man that is strong, stable and "tough" whatever the heck that means. I was taught that you keep your emotions in check and never let anyone see who you really are. Like never. It has taken me decades to unlearn some of this programing. Parts of it were easy and simple to leave behind , other elements took longer and needed more attention and intention. More importantly, women did not feel safe around me, because I didn't feel safe around me or my thoughts. I typically attracted ...

Rock Stars and Groupies: Narcissistic Co-Dependence in the Yoga Teacher-Student Relationship

As the author mentions, narcissistic co-dependence is prevalent in the therapy and counseling community, it is a "thing" for sure. Maya Angelou Phenomenal Woman

Many years ago I had given as a gift the book by Maya Angelou Phenomenal Woman to a friend. I remember the first time she read it and watching her face light-up as if she had just been touched by an angel, maybe she was in a sense. I have always been a fan of Maya Angelou. I flinched this morning when I read that she had passed. Although we had never met, I felt like I lost an old friend. Amazing and phenomenal people have that effect on those that have heard or read their words. Along with being an amazing writer, Maya Angelou had as beautiful a speaking voice as I can remember hearing....

Life Lessons Learned from Akeelah and The Bee

Life Lessons Learned from Akeelah and The Bee - Providence Holistic Counseling Services

On Saturday Night we watched Akeelah and The Bee on Netflix. It was a fun and stimulating family movie that reached a wide audience with its various messages and life lessons. I love movies like this; they are entertaining for adults and kids but go deeper than your typical Disney-type movie. They are about something besides how to be cute and having everything in life magically fall into place whether you have put in the time and effort or not, like most Disney movies. This film was effective in engaging two eleven year olds, two fifty-two year olds and a sixty-one year old, not bad....
