Drop Dead Gorgeous Syndrome – Curse, Blessing or Both?

As a teenage boy, I was completely convinced every "pretty girl" had the perfect life. All they had to do was smile. I was not an attractive teen and felt cheated by life. Little did I know about this thing called the Drop Dead Gorgeous Syndrome. The drop-dead gorgeous syndrome is when a super-attractive woman loses herself and becomes addicted to and enslaved by her physical appearance. Her identity is dependent on what we think of the way she looks at any given time, not her achievements, intelligence, character, talents, or sense of Self. I will not lie; I hated drop-dead gorgeous girls when I was younger. It is an embarrassing admission but real. I was jealous and felt like I had no chance to ever be with one of the "pretty girls," and this made me feel less masculine. Fortunately, I do not feel this way today. The following experience is based on a real event that happened many years ago. I have altered some facts to hide the identity of the woman involved out of respect for her and her privacy....

Providence Dating Success Series – How We Date Now

If this is how we date now, dating has changed. Everything has changed, so why not dating as well? I was reading the following article This Is How We Date Now and found it stimulating and disturbing. I do not have direct experience with this form of dating world. My relationships, past and present, are not on display on Facebook, twitter or anywhere else. The fact that I have never felt moved to do so, does not mean I do not understand the need to document life as positive and happy. My denial expresses itself differently....

Doubt

Doubt. Just writing the word stirs something inside me. I'm aware of feeling uncomfortable just seeing it, and since I'm using voice recognition software, saying it out loud. Doubt. Where does doubt come from? Are we taught doubt? Is doubt ingrained in our DNA? I wonder how much our life experiences influence the degree of doubt that expresses itself in our mind and body? ...

Stop Stalking and Start Talking – Stalking in Relationships

It is hard to know exactly what has created a culture of snooping and stalking in relationships, my gut tells me it has something to do with reality TV shows like The Jersey Shore and The Real Housewives.  These reality TV shows that center around narcissistic people who focus on gossip, competition and jealousy promote dishonesty and a lack of trust for the people we love in our lives. Social media outlets like Facebook and Twitter help create an environment where honesty, authenticity and genuine connection are not core values....

Why You Don’t Need To Be Right All The Time

The need to be right can at times feel like a drug. Our culture often reinforces this need to be right all the time through the media, politics and our education system. But what if you found out the reasons why you don't need to be right all the time? Is knowing the potential consequences of needing to be right all the time enough to create space for letting the rest of the 7 billion people who you share the planet with also be right sometimes?...
